"Winning a college scholarship was an unexpected bonus!" says a recent YLI Graduate.

In addition to sponsoring YLI, the Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation sponsors its own Rotary 4-Way Test College Scholarship
Essay Contest. Since only current YLI graduates can enter the contest, each graduate has an excellent chance of winning scholarships
to the college or university of his or her choice. For YLI 2010, the Overland Park Rotary Club Foundation will award $3,000 in
college scholarships.
The Rotary 4-Way Test was authored in 1932 by Chicago businessman, Herbert J. Taylor and later adopted by
Rotary International. RI adopted the 4-Way Test as its ethical decision model to encourage its members to strive for high
ethical standards in their business and personal matters by answering the following 4 questions:
-
Is it the TRUTH?
-
Is it FAIR to All Concerned?
-
Will it Build GOOD WILL and Better Friendships?
-
Will it Be BENEFICIAL to All Concerned?
The essay contest gives each contestant the opportunity to creatively exhibit his or her understanding of the
leadership concepts and skills learned during YLI, while exploring the Rotary 4-Way Test in an interesting and imaginative way.

All essays are judged on content, originality, organization, writing skills and resource material employed by a panel of three independent
judges. Contest winners will be announced during the Overland Park Rotary Club’s Annual YLI Recognition Day Luncheon honoring all YLI 2010
graduates. The luncheon will be held in the fall of 2010 and be co-hosted by the Club and its affiliate, the Overland Park Rotary
Club Foundation.
Contest rules and entrance forms for the Foundation’s Rotary 4-Way Test College Scholarship Essay Contest, including deadlines, will be
presented during the Youth Leadership Institute.
